AROUND JAIPUR / SOUNDS OF JAIPUR

Pungi | Sounds of Jaipur

Strolling through the lanes near City Palace we found Jagdish Nath ji (left in the photo above) playing pungi. Few minutes into a chat with him he shared his story of how the skill of playing pungi, the instrument mostly used by the shake charmers in India, has been passed on from generations within his family. Jagdish and another villager friend of his, moves around popular tourist monuments of Jaipur making their snake dance to the tune of pungi and earn their living.
